Stringing with Knots

Knotting between beads has many benefits, such as security, added length, and breathing room between beads that lets light in to reflect more beauty. On top of all that, thread color can enhance your designs or serve as a neutral space to highlight the beads. This class covers thread choices, proper tool use, adding a clasp, and of course, getting that knot right up against the bead with no extra spaces. Materials must be purchased before class begins.

Look no further than this innovative class at Blue Door Beads! Electroforming is a process that is making a comeback in contemporary jewelry art. In this three-hour workshop you will discover the potential for producing lightweight metal creations and take away skills for high production in your jewelry practice. Class time will include the step-by-step process of electroforming non-porous materials (for organic materials, see Level 2 class).  Time will be given to create and construct a finished necklace, ring or keychain. *Because of the length of time to electroform prepped objects (approx. 4-6 hours), students can pick up their electroformed piece three days after class, during shop hours.   Taking electroforming to the next level beyond gemstones is the Organics class & Open Studio! In this five-hour workshop you will discover the potential for producing lightweight metal creations out of flower pods, seeds, bones, textile/fabric or your choice of porous material. Class time will include a demo on how to electroform organic and porous materials and time will be given to create and construct a finished necklace, ring or keychain. This new class offers a free hour of open studio time built in!  Work alongside the instructor who will be available to answer questions and help you plan your designs to elevate your jewelry production. 

*Because of the length of time to electroform prepped objects (approx. 5-7 hours), students can pick up their electroformed piece three days after class, during shop hours. Dome Pendant in Metal Clay

 This class is for students who have gained comfort and prowess with basic wire wrapping skills and want to take it to the next level. This pendant looks really elaborate and can be made several times over with alternate beads for dramatically different effects! Using different gauges of wire for the frame of the pendant as well as the woven aspects, students will create "wing" pendants of their own to embellish as they wish. The techniques covered in class will be wrapping top-drilled beads, weaving with wire, hammering the frame, and the use of Liver of Sulphur for creating a patina on your piece. Materials must be chosen before start of class.

This is the simplest of all chain maille weaves, popular with beginners because it is so easy and fast, and is the basis for many other weaves. Once this weave is learned, all the other ones become easier to understand. Plus you get this hefty, chunky bracelet to make your friends jealous. Can be embellished with beads or left plain. Try oxidizing for more depth! This class covers the use of chain nose pliers, the 4-in-1 weave, and adding a clasp.

This class is for beginners of Metal Clay. Learn how easy this material can be manipulated by rolling, molding, and texturing. Once fired, it can be oxidized and polished just like traditional jewelry making. Students will create a single or double-sided dome pendant using silver clay.  After firing in a kiln, the end result is your unique design created in fine silver (.999). advanced techniques will be discussed in the class, so students can see the infinite possibilities with metal clay and join us for additional classes.
